I am honored to be selected as a part of the 2015 cohort for Synergy, the statewide library community's proactive movement to recruit and nurture a diverse group of future Illinois library leaders. Synergy objectives include self-assessment; discovering and developing personal values; identifying the local, state and global environment; fostering and expanding skills and tools for personal, professional and positional leadership; creating a cohort group; establishing mentoring relationships; and developing a vision of and beyond the field of librarianship.

World Book Night (2012-2013)

Beginning in 2012, I have coordinated the Northbrook Public Library's annual participation in World Book Night, or WBN. WBN is a non-profit that teams up with publishers to create special editions of beloved books that are distributed for free all over the country on the anniversary of Shakespeare's birthday. Working directly with the organization and local businesses in the community of Northbrook, I have overseen the distribution of over 500 free books by our staff at multiple times during the day and in multiple locations.

The Chicago Deskset (2010-2012)
http://chicagodeskset.com/
The Chicago Deskset was a grassroots organization created by myself, Adam Girard, and Anthony Molaro. We planned fundraising and social events at various bars and pubs in the Chicago area, providing a space for Chicago librarians to network, while also making a difference in our community. The Chicago Deskset has overseen the donation of hundreds of books to juvenile detention centers, and hundreds of dollars to local literary organizations such as 826 Chicago and Open Books. The group is currently on hiatus while two of the co-founders finish their doctoral programs.

Picture This Contest: Morton Grove Public Library (2011)
http://bit.ly/12nRPn4
I coordinated the Morton Grove Public Library's campaign to win the Playaway Picture This contest, which required a massive online campaign, in-library promotions, and also outreach to local businesses to gather votes. The Morton Grove Public Library came in third place, beating out many libraries several times the size of the small community.

The Young Librarian Series (2009-2010)
https://younglibrarianseries.wordpress.com/
With the support of Michael Stephens and the Tame the Web blog, the Young Librarian Series was an online community for library workers under the age of 40. I created this blog in order to provide a safe space for new and young librarians to collaborate, share information, and learn from each other's triumphs and failures.
